Here is a new one I received last Monday. The model is very nice as we are accustomed from GLM but the back window is not completely accurate because the opening should be smaller.

Also, the open versions of this model have a black steering wheel that should be cream color instead. So, I believe I got the best.

I think the black steering wheels may vary from model to model. I have four of these new '49 Cadillac models from GLM. The black open & closed versions both have a beige wheel as the does the blue open version. However, my burgundy closed version has a black steering wheel.

@jcarnutz All 1949 Cadillacs had a cream color steering wheel. I don't understand why GLM made the decision to have some with a black one. From the few models I have, GLM are mostly very accurate about details.

Good question. I have quite a few of their models and they are not perfect, but this kind of thing is usually not a concern. Maybe it involves the individual doing the assembly-they could have pulled from the bin. Either way, the models are very nice-If I can take my apart easily enough, I'll paint it.

You seem very knowledgeable on older cars from your comments on this Cadillac model and the 1950 Buick Sedanette. One thing I would like to know - how do you remember the color of the steering wheel on the real 1949 Cadillac?

@jcarnutz Of course, there is no model in 1/43 scale that is perfect. Otherwise, I would go back to the late 1/24 DM and 1/18 CMC collecting.

What do you think is the best manufacturer for accuracy and details for Cadillac and Buick if GLM is not the one?  Maybe you should guide me if I missed something in the last 10 years I was out of the hobby.

Actually, I do believe that GLM/Stamp are currently making the most accurate models in the Cadillac brand as well as others. I have been very pleased with many of their newer releases. The '56 are wonderful, as well as the new '55 Eldorados. The new '49s are equally impressive. If you are into other makes, the new '54 New Yorkers, '62 Studebakers & the recent Imperial models are all very well done.

There is no such thing as a "perfect model" by anyone in any scale. Heck, unless it is over-restored, there is no perfect 1:1 either. For the money, the GLM/Stamp model can't be beat.

I agree with you John; the STAMP/GLM and Goldvarg model lines are IMHO the best value for money in their respective price ranges.

I agree, the Goldvarg models are also exceptional quality for the money.

You gents are making some very good points. From my chair, it seems we are in the golden age of 1/43.
