I think there is a reason why they are forgotten. My first new car was a 76 Mustang II.

Much like this one only in silver with the white vinyl roof. It was a dog. I swear it took a half hour to cross a four lane intersection. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

I likes'em! My cuz had a Ghia, but I prefer the 2+2 bodystyle.

The 2+2 with the 302 was the only decent version of this car IMO.

The Cobra trim package was hard to look at and keep a straight face. It was a period best forgotten for Mustang enthusiasts.

Were these by any chance called Mustang two's?

My first new car was a '74 Mustang II

Unlike Duncan's experience, I rather liked it. Of course, I had low expectations - I knew it was an inexpensive car with a small engine, etc. I had the base model (all white, blue interior) with just an auto (should have gotten a stick), AM radio, and adjustable side view mirrors as options. Never gave me any trouble. Only got rid of it because I was heading to Memphis for my new job and driving an un-airconditioned car in that climate was (1) uncomfortable and (2) socially unacceptable (I was single at the time!). The Neo model is good but I wish they had chosen less vivid colors.

...and, I'll bet, at the time you had a blast in it.

I'm always surprised at how this model gets knocked. Sales-wise, it was a smash hit. I always thought they were fun cars. Yes, they were slow, but everything was slow in those years!

I carpooled to high school in the back of a red one (white vinyl roof). No way I could climb back ..

there now-a-days.

For me, as a 60s Mustang fanatic, the change made me sad. I get why it happened and it was the right call by Ford at the time; but in my eyes it was just a tarted up Pinto.

Indeed I did....

John - you hit the nail right on the head with your comments.

Jack - that's not to say I don't hear you, though! There was no comparing the Mustang II to the original 60s Mustangs. Two completely different worlds!

Thought so. There is a collectors club in the area that only has Mustang 2's
