Nothing rare or anything but when I bought the DeSoto I picked up this Checker too.

I probably should have mentioned it's a Checker A2, circa 1949 (Brooklin 089A).
We are all probably more familiar with the A8, circa 1960 or later.

The August and September issues of Hemmings Classic Car magazine had a two-part article on the history of Checker, with a lot of interesting photos. I didn't know much about the company, other than the fact that Ed Cole, father of a couple of classic GM V8 engines and also of the Corvair, was Checker's last president and the company never recovered after he was killed in 1977 in the crash of his private airplane.
I highly recommend the articles if you have any interest in taxis and Checkers in particular.
