Just got back Sunday night from a week at Pebble Beach Week. Thought I'd share a few photos from the concourse last Sunday. I had two friends with cars on the field. One, a 1933 Auburn Boattail Speedster which he bought from the woman original owners estate twenty years ago. The restoration was completed a few weeks ago. The car received a best in class award. A 1/43 model of this one would be nice as I don't think there has been one.
Another friend owns the 1949 aluminum body XK120 Jaguar that Phil Hill bought new in England as an apprentice mechanic when studying at Jaguar. Phil raced the car
at the first road race thru the Del Monte Forest in 1950 where it took first and sent Phill Hill on his storied racing career That race and Phill Hills win started it all with the Pebble Beach Concours and
what later became Pebble Beach Week.
I can't seem to figure out how to format the pictures to the descriptions so here goes.
Pictured is Phil Hill's XK120, 1933 Auburn Boattail Speedster, the line of past Best Of Show Winners, 1935 Ford Miller Indy car less body, 3 out of the 4 917 Gulf Porsches, and there were many more 917's, 1935 Duesenberg SJ "Mormon Meteor" Speedster, 1896 Ryker Electric Roadster, and the BEST OF SHOW winner, a 1938 Mercedes 540J Auto Bahn Kurier.
Fantastic series of pictures Curtis. Wonderful cars. Thanks for posting here.
It's always interesting to see the " cream de la cream" of motor cars for us " common folk". The Porsche 917's are just awesome.
Thanks for sharing Curtis. Love the Auburn Speedster.
Thanks for this great post, Curtis. Your photos are the next best thing to being there!
Thanks very much for these pics Curtis. That Jag is awesome....and with a history as good as it gets.
Hello Curtis,
Thank-you ! The pics you've posted for us are so much appreciated ! Details add the final touch !

Nicely done, Curtis. Thanks. The Porsches are awesome, as are the others. You have to wonder if Porsche ever envisioned their racers on display at Pebble.

I bet you had a fun week.
@mg-harv Harvey, to my eye the hood is to short and the car looks a little squatty? Also I don't know if there were variations to '33 Auburn Boattails but the grill in the model has the grill bars going horizontally and my friends car has them vertically. The bumpers on the model look thick and the windshield frame is to thin and not the right shape where it meets the body along the cowl. That's a quick look. Here's a side view of the '33.
We were there as well..... lots of people and great cars...... what a really great day!!
Wow -not only getting to attend the Concours of all Concours -- but knowing winning participants, with entries of such provenance. It's a car-crazy's dream come true. Tell us more!
