PIC: Mettoy Christmas
photo no longer available
This model was issued as a promotional for the Co-operative Wholesale Supplies by Mettoy in 1954. After Mettoy introduced their Corgi Toys brand in 1956 they decided to re-issue this casting as a Corgi Toys giving it the model number 455 which was released in January 1957. For the Corgi Toys version Mettoy carried out a few changes namely the wheels, added a clear plastic window moulding and the baseplate was given a make-over by removing any connection to Mettoy and ensuring the Corgi Toys brand was clearly identified.
This Mettoy Karrier was totally restored by Alan Boughton a friend of mine from the Coventry Diecast Model Club.
BTW the pedal car is a 1:43rd scale white metal replica of an Austin Joy car made by Kenna.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
