Pics 1960 Pontiac Safari
photo no longer available
Dear friends, here are the first photos of 1960 Pontiac Safari prototype that I finished yesterday.
Many improvements will be done.
For example, the chromed trim surrounding windows is a little too thick.
Best regards and stay safe!photo no longer available

They look great, Sergio, but would you please consider two-toning one of them? Either one with a white roof would look terrific and, speaking for myself, add to the wagon's appeal. It's interesting that the two colors you selected are similar to the two colors of the WMCE '59 Bonneville Safaris. A contrasting roof would further differentiate the '60 wagons from the '59s.
And I am glad to see that neither has a roof rack, so difficult to replicate correctly in our scale.
Looking forward to the final product!
They look great. I’ll need at least one to park next to my ‘59 wagon.

I feel differently. I wish you would leave them just as they are. It is getting boring. More of these white roofs, just too much,
Even these colors have been used, or close to it. I can live with the colors, they are very typical of 1960, but leave them single tone.
I think you have to do a couple of earlier cars. The 1953 Ford Country Squire was one of your best.
I'm just getting bored with the sameness. Once again, only an opinion. I need something different. I made up a list of card needing to be done. Hope you would consider one or two of them.
dear Ray,
I understand your position, but also you need to understand that collectors also are asking me to do models of there sixties, so I have to do a bit of everything so all collectors will be happy. I am working now in another 1948 model...you will like it!
dear Rick, thanks so much for your opinion!
I am not aware of the colors from WMCE. which other colors will you suggest for my 1960 Safaris? Best regards!
Thanks so much, dear John!
Sergio, Put a white roof on the copper, but keep the blue solid. All-blue was very popular on the1:1
These look great, to me, as is. Wagons for this year Pontiac must be quite rare.
i hope it will be a convertible .
Sergio, the WMCE '59s are gold and medium blue, similar to your prototypes shown although the blue on your wagon is a good bit lighter.
A white over Sierra Copper Bonneville Safari is shown in the '60 Pontiac brochure and it is very attractive. The copper is different from your gold one, which is the same color as the WMCE '59.
Colors I'd suggest that you look at and consider include Sierra Copper, as opposed to the gold color, or any of the following, either in solid colors or with a white roof: Coronado Red, Fairway Green, Berkshire Green, or Richmond Gray. You can see them on the Auto Color Library chart. I don't think the gray would look good in a solid scheme, but with a white top would look great.
Those wagons were big vehicles, and breaking up the solid expanse of paint by contrasting the roof color made them appear less massive, in my opinion. White roofs were popular in warm-weather areas, too, because that's a lot of steel roof and air-conditioning was not standard equipment then.
Just some things to consider. The Safaris look very good, as I said before, and I look forward to their release.
Rick
Dear Rick, thanks so much for your color suggestions!
They sold quite a few, Mark. Overall, Pontiac was fifth in car sales in 1960, with over 35000 Catalina wagons and about 5200 of the Bonneville Safaris sold.
We collectors appreciate your willingness to consider suggestions, Sergio!
Asking our opinions means a lot.
By the way, if you have access to Collectible Automobile magazine, the April '99 issue featured the '59 and '60 Pontiacs and some nice two-toned Safaris are shown, including a white over what looks like Berkshire Green and a very distinctive Bonneville wagon in white with a black roof! That's different!
Sergio, I really like the blue version as is but think that the second version needs a more vibrant 2-tone application. I like Rick's suggestion of shelltone ivory over sierra copper iridescent. I would also like to suggest the following 2 options:
Shelltone Ivory roof over Palomino Beige body and lastly Newport blue Iridescent roof over Shelltone ivory body (this one would be something a bit different (roof color). My friend had one this color and it looked great. Just one man's suggestions for your consideration. This will be a great model Sergio; keep those 60s car coming! Thanks for asking for our suggestions; much appreciated.
