PICS - John Ellis 1950 Ford Country Squire
A belated welcome to new Forum member, John Ellis!
As I mentioned below (and Curtis kindly noted) I am fortunate to have one of John's splendid creations in my collection.
Several years ago I obtained quite a few Motor City USA bodies, bases and other parts including most of the parts to make a '50 Ford woody wagon. I mentioned this to Jeff Thomas, who was in the process of resurrecting Motor City USA. Jeff fairly raved about a builder-customiser whose work had impressed him...John Ellis. I contacted John, described what I had to work with, (some unpainted castings, various parts and a sedan and convertible donor car). He happily set to creating me a a brand new wagon.
Here, are the photos of the finished product and a Motor City-built Country Squire. John's is slightly lighter in colour and the wood is a warm tone. He also added a blue license plate, a neat tailgate window decal, and a large cowl-mounted spotlight. What stands out for me in these photos is that John's paintwork and woodgraining are richer and more vivid than the Motor City (which is already outstanding). Lastly, the bumper I supplied John did not fit. He found an excellent substitute from a Franklin Mint Country Squire. Impressive skills and creativity. Hope you enjoy the photos:

The USAC sticker is a nice touch!
Any current update on Jeff Thomas' plans?
Much warmer color of the "maple" and better looking panels.
Yes, that makes a big favorable difference.
I don't know. It has been years since we last conversed.
