Pics -- Motor City 1950 Pontiac

Pontiac's first new postwar generation arrived in 1949. Clean, modern styling was courtesy of Harley Earl's staff, and similar in general concept to that seen on GM's other new model lines in '49. The 1950 cars were a continuation of the themes on the '49.

All Pontiac series were offered with the familiar inline flathead engines from earlier years, and there were DeLuxe trim models in each. Although Pontiac's change in emphasis to performance was a decade away, the '50 Ponchos were nice highway cruisers and still a step above Chevrolet in terms of GM's hierarchy.

The MOC '50 Poncho has great presence and detail in person.

I had been trying to get a 1950 Poncho for awhile and I was able to work out a deal on a green Poncho. As an added bonus, the Pontiac is a legit 1-of-1 complete with a letter from MOC.

The '50 Pontiac cost between $1,805-$2,206. For a little more money ($1,878-3,296), the buyers could take a step up to Oldsmobile's 88 with its lusty new overhead valve V8 engine. Below, the MOC Poncho is pictured with a '50 Olds 88 by MOC.

Like it's Chevrolet cousin, the 1953 and 1954 Pontiacs were heavily facelifted versions of the car that first appeared in 1949. Below, the '50 Poncho is pictured with a '54 Pontiac by Conquest Models.

Very nice post Mr. Dil. What makes it 1 of 1? Color?

Thanks. According to the letter with the car, it's the only MOC Poncho convertible in that color.

Why not just build one for yourself in your basement / MOC factory?

Great post! This remindes me of when was a kid....

my friends father would come home from work and stop at the foot of the driveway and my friend and I would jump on the fenders of his fathers 50' Pontiac and hold onto the Indian hood ornament and ride up the driveway. What fun!

This 1/43 Pontiac certainly is a rare one and it's a great find in this excellent color scheme.

In the Fifties, my family was largely outfitted with GM's first two steps up their automotive "ladder", namely, Chevys and Pontiacs : My Grandparents had a '55 Pontiac and my Dad either a '53, '55 or '58 Chevrolet.
