ALL these transports have race specific cars that were hauled. Some I had to modify to be correct for the race and year

Here is a wonderful 1/43 Pegaso 'Bacalao' transporter by Modeltrans that I would love to have for its baroque charm, but do not collect transporters and I wonder if you have a copy of this and/or what your own thoughts might be?

First word that comes to mind....Expensive. This type of transport has the whole rear that lifts like a tailgate if memory serves me. I don't have one like it but surely would like one

These pics are just some of my collection of transports. Some I've done radical changes to because they aren't available out there to buy or are way to expensive and usually in kit form. For example: in a pic above where there is a green Piper/Attwood. The Bartoletti for that year and race was much different than most of that era. I revamped the whole rear structure and did the correct paint scheme. On a few others I made box trucks out of dump trucks and such to replicate actual transporters. On one I had to extend the frame to accept the body. That one is a Penske Sunoco Porsche/Audi hauler. Also made a U Hall box truck for early Penske (1960's) race vehicles. Back then they hauled with a trailer. Many of the racers used whatever they could to get to a race. If I had the talent there would be so many more variations made.

Just fantastic stuff! Makes me wish I had started collecting in 1:43 instead of 1:18. Thanks for posting these!

Certainly some of those we see in your photo's are not cheap, by any standards. But I guess it always comes down to priorities and having to decide among those on a long wishlist.

Very true. There are cars in my collection that I've spent ridiculous amounts for. Do I regret it. Not really But as I get older and am now on a fixed income I have to be wiser in my spending. $1000 plus for a 1:43 transporter at my age isn't going to cut it any more. Sooo I either modify something similar or do without. Ahhhh if only a were a rich man instead of good looking...LOL

You wouldn't have all those Exoto cars then. I have most of the Vette GS cars plus a few different others by them. When I downsized my collection from 1:18 and mostly 1:24 I kept all the higher end cars. Exoto, CMC, etc It gave me so much more room for 1:43 that I got heavy into.

Tom, you are right, I would not have 38 Exoto Daytona Coupes - and another 10 Shelby Collectibles Daytona Coupes if I had gone to 1:43. It is true that I've got a total of 92 Exoto models but I don't have the flexability or variety that 1:43 would have given me. Pretty great hobby no matter which way you go.

I agree there. I'm a spender and when I started collecting I had to have everything pertaining to those transports I got. Exoto by far has the most detail and accuracy I think  But the variety and ease of acquiring Old Cars for the 60's Bartoletti's is where most of my transports come from. At least the ones I've modified. I have another half dozen of those that are scheduled for modifying. That is if I ever get around to it.
