Question about 1949 Nash in 1/43. Who produced the best model of this Nash in 1/43....
I have the MOC-USA version of the '49 Nash which, like most MOC-USA units, is nicely rendered but lacking in detailes. I know that Tin Wizard also produced a version of the '49 Nash. Is the Tin Wizard version of the Nash nicer than the MOC-USA? Are there any other versions of the '49 Nash in 1/43?
Below is a pic of my MOC-USA Nash. It's an okay unit. However, I'd prefer a '49 Nash with (1) more detailing and in (2) standard (non-service) form.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
Jerry Rettig in AMERICAN WHEELS lists the following for 1949:
4 dr sedan Ambassador - Design Studio - police
4 dr sedan - USA - taxi, fire, police
2 dr sedan Ambassador - USA
Nearby are the Zaugg and Tin Wizard 1950 sedans, and a Skyline '50 Statesman in resin. He also lists the Tin Tin 1949 Airflyte sedan, calling it toy-like. Hope that helps. The only one I have is a twin of yours, and I like it.
Best detail is the 1950 Nash from Tin Wizard (Skyline).
Thanks, Dick.
Is the 1950 Nash from Tin Wizard (Skyline) related to the 1950 Nash from Zaugg?
Or are these completely different models? If so, it would be interesting to see the two Statesmen side by side. I have the Zaugg in blue (#6), and I thought it was great when I got it, in the 80s. It hasn't been out of its box for years; I don't know how it measures up to contemporary standards.

Shared moulds with this model.
The Zaugg / Tin Wizard Nash has more chrome detail but is an inferior model
When you compare the Tin Wizard (a.k.a. Skyline / Zaugg / Empire Models) to photos of the real car, you'll see that most of the proportions are off. The body is too narrow and elongated.
TW's casting has absolutely no trim detail around the windows. This gives the model a "blob-like" appearance - more than the real car deserves. There are also no side vent window posts. They try to fake posts by adding pieces of chrome tape to the vacuum formed window but it's a poor substitute.
Motor City's version is a much more accurate and detailed casting. If your concern is chrome detail, you need only apply some Bare Metal Foil and viola...a clear winner.
Thanks, Patrick.

More on the 1949 Nash from Ray Paszkewicz...
Checked your 1/43rd Forum this morning and I believe I have a 1949 Nash, not mentioned in your discussion. Motor City introduced a very detailed 1949 Nash in their Design Studio line when they first made this model. Later, they brought out the same model with less detail for less money. I think this is the one most collectors have and also the one mentioned in the posts and Jerry's book. I don't know how long the original detailed Nash was available, but it had to be over a year. I was selling them at the time.
My model is two toned, Cream, below the beltline, with a midnight Blue top. The windshield surround, front door vent, quarter glass and rear window are all photo etch. The beltline molding and lower side molding are bare metal foiled. There is an outside rear view mirror. There are decals for the Ambassador script on the front fenders and Nash Custom script on the trunk lid. The windshield wipers are photo etch and there is an antenna on the right fender. There is Red Nash script on the wheel covers. The grille is blackwashed and the headlights have plastic lens. The door handles are separate chrome plated. The interior is Gray and the dash appears to be woodgrained. Design Studio #12. It is really nice and would have to be the best of this style produced.
This sounds great! I would love to see pictures of it.

Sorry for the overexposed print (I have to retake this model). However, you see that it is a beauty. There also was a plain white version of it which is even rarer.

The DS Nash looks so much nicer than my USA version. Thanks for the pic.
Pat, bear in mind the Zaugg is a Statesman, the others are Ambassadors.
Therefore there should be a distinct dimensional difference.
