"The top 100 American Collector Cars" is the lead article in today's edition of the Hemmings Weekly Newsletter. (from the Jan. 2013 issue of Hemmings Classic Cars). As I went down the list, I could honestly say I wish I had every one of them in my 1:43 collection... well, with a few substitutions maybe.
I'm trying to figure out how to put the site here, so stay tuned. Maybe somebody else is more computer savy?
David, if you have website address send it to me & I'll post it.

This listing appeared in "Hemmings Classic Car"issue #100. If you want more detail and pictures of these 100 cars, you may want to contact "Hemmings Class Cars" as they likely may have this back issue avaiable.
If the Nash Metro counts as American, then so should my Arnolt-MG!
After all, the "manufacturer" is listed as being on East Erie St. in Chicago.
I agree, Ken. Without a formal count, I know I have quite a few of them.
What a nice line up of historic automobiles
It would be quite the undertaking for any company to produce all of these models but, surely welcomed by most. Yes, it is true that a lot of them have been done already and it would make for an interesting themed collection, the Hemming's Top 100.
Can we assemble a collection from this list? Like...
1. Oldsmobile Curved Dash -
2. Simplex 50 Speed Car -
3. Ford Model T - Donguan, IXO, Corgi,
4. Oldsmobile Limited -
5. Stanley Steamer - Donguan,
6. Mercer Raceabout - Matchbox,
Feel free to add to the list, I know I'm interested.
Just going through the list I can pick out a few here and there that I already have. Like the Ford Model A by Minichamps. The Auburn Speedster by IXO. The Chrysler Imperial by Western (both open and closed tops), Packard Twin-Six by Mini Marque, Pierce Arrow Silver Arrow by IXO and Brooklin, Chrysler Airflow by IXO and Brooklin, Auburn 851 by Western, well you get the drift...
As someone mentioned a lot of these cars have been modeled before but we desperately need a 1930 Cadillac V16, a Simplex from 1908-11, an Oldsmobile Ltd and a decent Oldsmobile curved dash, I can only think of the plastic Minialuxe one and the Rio Caddy V16, so we need someone like Neo or Matrix to make em.
Number one on my wish list of these? The 1910-12 Oldsmobile Limited.
If the car doesn't come to mind quickly, do yourself a favor and google it. This was a gigantic, expensive automobile that would really dominate the "old cars" section of my display. I would love to have the chance to use it that way!
I am close to 50 percent of the list, some in other scales....
Franklin Mint made a Cadillac V-16 roadster in 1:43. Plus...
...Renwal made a pre-colored 1:48 plastic kit of the curved dash Olds. Plus, they too made a Stanley Steamer and a 1931 Cadillac Phaeton (might be a V-16). Too bad these weren't 1:43 but I guess they looked good on O-gauge railway layouts..
