Cars racing in the NASCAR circuit were really specially prepared versions of what we could buy at a local dealer?

Yeah, try buying a V8 Camry at your Toyota dealer.

Lol, yes, exactly Harv ! Or the rear-wheel drive versions of FWD consumer editions. I used to let the salesmen at the Chicago Auto Shows have it with both barrels when I looked over their latest offerings. A number sheepishly agreed with me that it was rather misleading and a revealing look at what bureaucrats and over-regulation had brought.

@karl   Yes, it is, still in its original box.  It's been stored away here for a while.

Great post, David!    (Early) NASCAR has always been the only kind of motorsports that fascinated me, so here some of my mdels in 1/43

SMTS Galaxies
Galaxie Spark

Three Ford Galaxies by SMTS and one by Spark (with homemade "after race" look)

Fairlane NASCAR post
Impalas

Ford Fairlane and Chevrolet Impala groups by Quartzo / Vitesse

I also have a couple of cars in my 1/24 department, but that's another story... 😉

Yes Harv! I would love to see NASCAR go back to homologation rules....the Camry would be a better car with a V8 and rear wheel drive!

That's quite a collection Ralf. Because of space considerations I don't collect race cars but I sure like them. Thanks for sharing.

@ben-lampson There's always Trans Am, where the Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers look like their road-going counterparts. Here's one of my favorites among the old stockers.

I love me some Trans Am racers Harv!

Do you have the Spark Bobby Unser Pikes Peak Torino with Unser behind the wheel? One of my favorite Spark models.

A mixed medley of Spark, Matrix, TSM, SMTS and possibly others.

The last 3 pics are 1/18 Trans Am cars.

The #6 Javelin is a sealed resin by Replicarz....an absolutely stunning 1/18 model.

Click on pics for better clarity.

Replicarz is supposed to do the Javelin in 1/43 someday, as is Spark for the No. 48 car. I have a few T-A cars by Spark.

SMTS is also supposed to do a second gen Javelin Trans Am car Harv.

I inquired about the upcoming Javelin to Keith at SMTS and he said they are down on employees, so it might take a while longer.
