Rextoys '40 Packard Super 8 CHiP... question
I've had thislittle model for ages and many years ago my kids probably knocked it around and the hood ornament was lost. I don't even remember the style of the ornament. Other than that, it's still in gereat condition. Does anyone know if anyone makes a repro of the proper ornament?
Also, was there a license plate in the rear?

Rich, I have this one MIB and the radiator ornament is the Packard Cormorant with wings up in the air. Mine does have a license plate similar to the one in your photos...the bracket at the bottom is chrome, not black, though, and all mine has is a yellow splash of paint where yours is black. I guess I need to add a plate to cover up that yellow blob, which doesn't look anything like a license plate.
Looks like your right headlight is AWOL, too.

LOL.. Well, you solved a mystery..... [PIC]
I found that headlamp under a sofa a month or so ago and couldn't figure where it came from. How the heck I didn't notice that it was missing on this model is probably a sure sign of impending dementia.

Thank you, sir. That looks like it's exactly what I need.
Despite the Rextoy Packards being a little....
narrow, I still enjoy the one's that I do have. Though I was never real impressed with the Cadillac models that they issued. I have several of the Packard's (not the Police car though) the green and the yellow taxi cabs and the sedan in dark blue and light gray. Plus several of the Fords and only one Cadillac and one Chrysler.
Rextoy's stillborn plans
If you have one of the Rextoy folders that came with many of the models you will be amazed at what they show but apparently never got to actually make. There is a series of 1938 Buicks sport coupe, cabriolet, four door "streamline" sport sedan, touring sedan, and four door convertible to die for. And if that's not enough there was a range of '37 Chevrolets as well, sedans, 5 window coupe, cabriolet, taxi etc. And 1935 Lincolns, and the '40 Packard sedan was to have cabriolet and coupe companions. Too bad these never came to fruition.

I have one of those folders. The pictures look great.
Why no mention of the missing headlight?
Rextoy Packard and Plans
Just adding my two cents, for the money a really nice image. I have the catalog and agree, what a line that would have been. Wonder what happened?
Here's some information from a while back.

Rextoys- A quick history
Mention has been made yesterday and today of Rextoys, so this old history teacher would like to recap the story. The founder and President of Rextoys was Count Antonio Giansanti Coluzzi (1915-2006), owner of a company called Fulgurex (Fulgur x Rex -''The king of the lightning flash''), an enterprise designed to produce and distribute the finest model trains. His primary residence was Switzerland, where he had a large and very selective toy collection. He also was the author of a fine train book. With Rextoys, the count wanted to create a "museum" of cars, living proof of what he considered the great era of the automobile. Launched in 1982, the range was intended to consist of a wide variety of replica Cadillacs, Packards, Fords, Lincolns, Chevrolets, Pierce Arrows, Chryslers, Buicks and Rolls Royce automobiles. Many of the cars had not been made as models and were selected personally by Count Coluzzi. However, upon his death, production ceased and many of his chosen models were never produced. Most Rextoys were built under contract for the Count by Vitesse in a factory in Portugal, with some made in France. If you are lucky, the next Rextoy model you buy will have the fold-out sheet that came with it originally that displays the count's planned production.

"David, the death of Count Antonio Giansanti Coluzzi had
nothing to do with the ceasation of the Rextoys brand. This occurred a few years before the original Vitesse group went bust. Vitesse went belly up in 1999.
"The question remains as to who the manufacturer was in France for the R-R models."
More information may be found at Toysnz.com, but not the answer to Chris's good question.
See my comment above, and Rich's reply to it.
David, thanks for digging this up! Great background.
