That is sad news, John. He will be missed yet I know what you leave behind is important and there is more for one's spirit .....
Thanks John. I am really sorry to hear this as Bob was truly a class guy. When Brooklin was rolling with regular announcements I had a standing order with Bob which he would automatically send out to me. I met Bob when he came to the 1/43 show in Chicago several years ago. Bob will be missed in the hobby for his graciousness and integrity
Thanks for passing on the sad news. Bob will be missed by everyone in the hobby.
@bob-jackman Bob, your comments are perfect. I used to meet up with Bob at Macungie every year; he was a pleasure to talk with and an absolute joy to do business with. A great loss.

Sorry to hear that. He was one of the best!
Sad news. I bought a lot of Brooklins and Landsdowns over the phone from him back in the heyday of Brooklin. Nice to read of his background in his obituary. Strange that we do not learn as much as we'd like about folks until after they're gone.

I'm so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. A wonderful person. I bought my first 1/43 models from him. A departed friend, Bill Harrison introduced me to 1/43 and gave me Bob's name as a person of integrity of which to do business. That was in May of 1993. I bought many Motor City models from Bob as they came out. RIP Bob...
Bob lived about 3 hours from me, and I had the opportunity to visit him several times. He was not only a great guy but a fascinating one as well. He had a huge house that overlooked the city he served and loved. As several have mentioned, he was a man of integrity, a gentleman, and a gentle man. He loved our hobby and the people he met through it.
On one visit, during the early 2010s when Motor City Models were skyrocketing in price, he showed me a closet jammed with MOCs in their boxes. "I'm saving these for a rainy day," he said. They were his personal stash and he cherished them. Still, if one of his clients was looking for one of those models, Bob would pull it out of his closet and sell it, always at a very reasonable price.
I was with him when he received the leftover parts from MOC after they closed down. Seven large boxes were sitting on his basement floor where he kept his "shop." We opened the first one and found all the parts piled into the box with no labels and no way of determining what parts went with which models. He looked at me and said, "Well, this is a mess. But this is what the hobby is all about. Folks are going to need these."
Over the last few years, Bob had some health issues. He didn't like to talk much about them, but you could hear that he was struggling in his voice. Then he was attacked by his dog and was in the hospital for an extended time. Once he got out, he was attacked again. It was tragic and he never seemed to recover from his injuries. In the middle of all that, he grieved over his dog.
That was the kind of guy Bob Hooper was.

I met Bob when he started 'Dominion' his company back in mid 1980. As noted Bob was a true 'Virginia gentleman', Being a Boston 'Brahmin" we sparred over our mutual heritages in a friendly manner which only enhanced our friendship., We would meet each year at Hershey where Bob's tent was just down from the Society of Automotive Historians tent where I held forth. We had many happy dinners together, I cherish the memories and his friendship.
I am an architect, and Bob was designing and building a spectacular contemporary home at this time. We spent many a happy hour discussing house details, and Bob incorporated some of my ideas into the construction. A testament to our mutual respect.
Bob closed down 'Dominion' about a year ago and his decline was quite swift. He was indeed one of the "Good Guys" of our hobby. He will be sorely missed. God speed Bob.
Very sad read that Bob passed away.I buy in the past many Motor City Usa from Dominion Models and I remember that sometimes I Conctated Him by Email to ask if he could reserve to me some Motor City and he has never refused to do this. When Dominion closed it was also a big loss getting miniatures at correct price.
Ciao Bob,Riposa in Pace !
I didn't know Bob but heard only good things about him. RIP.
