That LT motor in your 2016 is a different beast than the TPI motor in your '90.
As you know, the Corvette got the new 2nd gen LT1 in 1992, which was a huge bump in horsepower and torque over the TPI motor, and then in '97 with the new C5, it was again refreshed with a brand new engine with the LS1.
I went bone yarding yesterday, and saw 2 cars sitting next to each other, that you normally wouldn't find in a junkyard. There was a 1990 C4 Corvette and more surprising, there was a 1982 Z28 Indy 500 pace car factory replica! That Z28 should not be in the bone yard!
The C4 still had its TPI and the Z28 still had its 305 4 barrel, with the carb missing, but the 4 barrel intake was still there.
GM initially designed the C7 to be the first mid-engined Corvette, but they were short on time and didn't want a skip year of production like what happened in 1983.
I believe they built at least one test mule C7 with the motor in the back.
