A second version of the sold-out 1970 Ford Galaxie wagon Chicago Fire Department has been released. I had high hopes that the ridiculous license plates would have changed, but no, the IL-colored licenses still say Massachusetts and Grand Canyon state. Revisions include coloring the inboard headlights (though  the color used on the right side is more blue than green) and the addition of dayglow orange identifiers on the roof. Anyone know when Chicago started painting roof numbers on their apparati in this color? Please Sergio, make some proper license decals - I'm sure many collectors would like to get them. Still no auxiliary searchlight on the off side either but this isn't on the restored "replica" car (see below).

My first version (quickly sold when I heard of this reissue) was one of 180 per the plate on the base. This new one is one of 300. So a question for Sergio is: are there now 300 or 480 Ford Fire cars? Did you make an additional 120 to the original 180, or are there 300 more now?

I searched the internet for photos of the real car. I believe Sergio based has replica on a 1970 Ford that replicates an original. Months ago I know I saw a front view of this car, confirming the plate numbers, but I can't seem to locate it now:

Also found an old b&w pic of Unit B19, which has a different front plate, but you can see the right side spotlight. I would think all the battalion chiefs' cars would have this.

One of my frustrations  for a long time now.

I hate when manufactures replicate models of restored vehicles.  Restored vehicles may not always be historically correct.   Some collectors, of course, couldn't care less but for others it's a paramount concern.

That being said, in this case anyway....  "spotlights & license plates"  seem like easy fixes; it is a cool looking model.  😎

A good-looking Chicago fire chiefs 1970 station wagon from Ford and Goldvarg. I would be delighted with this one and it would make a fine companion to my civilian 1958 Ford station wagon replica also from Goldvarg in 1/43.
