This was the first F1 race I ever attended, made more economical by visiting old college buddies who lived in the Motor City. The course ran through the streets of Detroit; consequently, there was catch fencing everywhere, making clear views for photos next to impossible. But I did what I could. The race was won by John Watson in the #7 McLaren-Ford MP4/1B, with Eddie Cheever grabbing second in the Ligier-Matra JS17 #25. Spark has made both of these and, of course, the Marlboro and Gitanes cigarette ads have to be hand-applied by the purchaser. Last weekend I finally got around to doing the Marlboro ads.
I have a few decals left over. On the McLaren there are two very miniscule Marlboros which go on the SLEEVES of Watson's suit. I had such a time getting the larger one on his helmet I decided I better not try. A third decal probably goes at the rear of the wing, but I cannot tell how centered the decal should be - it's possible it could be offset to the right. Anyone have a picture of the rear of the car? On the Ligier again a few very small ones that I'm sure belong on Cheever's helmet and suit.
Any more '82 Detroit GP cars out there?
I used to work in downtown Detroit. I remember watching the time trials out the window of my office on the
24th floor of the Guardian Building.

Thanks to my Facebook friends - got a good view of the rear wing. Spark messed up and left out an extra "Marlboro". Off to the decal collection to search....
Great post! I love the pictures of the actual cars with the models.
