It pleases me that Vlad has made his great 1905 Cadillac 1/43 model available, and that it is being given the recognition it so rightly deserves. I would like once more to give a little background, especially since Vlad has written of the Tootsietoy influence.
Here is the 1960 four inch Antique Series by Tootsietoy: (Click on picture for enlargement.)
Of course the central figure of the Cadillac coupe is of paramount interest, but I like this whole series. Tootsietoy in 1960 was a manufacturer of dime store toys, but this "4 Inch Antique Series" was a departure for the company and, in my opinion, helped awaken interest in antique cars of the United States. My favorite is the Stutz, even though I was in 1960 much more familiar with the Revell Highway Pioneers kit version:
I also like the 1929 Ford Model A coupe, but the much later Brooklin 1930 version shows just how simplified the Tootsietoy was. I might also add that too many of the surviving Tootsietoy Model A coupes have evidence of an inherent weakness. Potential buyers should be aware.
I like this old Tootsietoy series, even though mine are showing their years a bit. Aren't we all? I appreciate Vlad's revival of a special antique auto and I only hope that others from this series will follow. When was the last time someone made a Stanley Steamer in 1/43 scale!
I hope you enjoy my wandering memories. David H
