In today's mail came two Toyota sports cars that I have been wanting to acquire for a long time, but had to be patient for a decent price to appear. IMO this is a gorgeous car/model. I am very pleased with them...to the point that I just ordered the racing version to display with them. Ebay ads attached.
@rich-sufficool It is IMO a rather unique design and one that, to be honest, took some time to grow on me.....but it certainly has.

@jack-dodds Nice one Jack - I had the competition version in my watched items. Glad it went to a good home.

Very cool model and car ! I believe a special convertible version of a version of the Toyota 2000GT was used in "You Only Live Twice" by 007 ? It may have been available as a 1/43 in the James Bond series of cars released some year back.
A local collector car dealer had a left hand drive a few years ago which he sold at the Mecum auction at Kissimee. I understand that very few were made with LHD.
I have never seen one of these cars in person but would sure love to check one out some day. I wonder why Toyota only made a small number of them?

Thanks for this post JK; I hadn't heard of the HPI brand.

There is a good but short clip of this convertible on Jay Leno's Garage.
@jack-dodds AUTOart made two versions of the spyder 2000GT in 1/18.... a "stock" version and a Bond version. If I remember right, there are only two in existence.
@jack-dodds BTW: it's not a convertible. There's no top and the tonneau cover covers... nothing.
Yes, two only is what Leno alluded to as well....and you're quite right, it's not a convertible is it!
