Yesterday I published in facebook group questions about True Dimensions range and illustrated them by the 1990 Summer note published in Model Auto Review.
Unfortunately, there are no answers and I'd like to ask folks here. Does anybody have 1956 Imperial 2 door hardtop and 1950 Pontiac Sedan delivery or these models have never been issued as series production? Did the company make 1962 Corvette, 1962 Bel Air, 1957 Bonneville?
A month ago I tried to connect with Tom Dirnberger but he doesn't reply. Perhaps, anybody can help to ask him questions?
I have always had an issue with folks that don't reply, but that's for another time...
I have attached a copy of Jerry Rettig's book American Wheels True Dimensions section, and it appears that most models are questionable as to having been produced.
That is all I have available in my reference material.
@lloyd-mecca Thank you very much for this information. Apparently, Tom Dirnberger decided not to invest money in white metal True Dimensions range and to focus on import sales.
According to some sources, workshop made 435 Darrins, not more. Though other models were only plans, not more.
Many people usually prefer not to answer. Don't know real reasons but I also have negative experience in communication.
Hello Fred, and others.
I did not choose to ignore your enquiry. If your request was made through Facebook that’s why. I seldom look at Facebook as I have found it cumbersome to have a conversation.
I will attempt to answer your questions. We did produce 1954 Kaiser Darrin. Although 435 limited of each color was announced, far fewer were ever made. White metal was very difficult to manage and later models had bodies cast in resin, with all other parts in metal. We followed that up with the 1955 Kaiser Darrin Phaeton, based on an illustration in “Last Onslaught on Detroit”. While limited to 50 pieces, less than 40 were produced and sold. I still have a few of these. We did purchase the brass master of the 1956 Imperial from Precision Miniatures. We found it to be too inaccurate to consider production. In later years, I got my wish by hiring GLM to produce the model in resin. At that time, the models were actually made by Matrix.
We had a brass master made of the 1950 Pontiac Sedan Delivery, and while it was quite accurate, other obligations arose that forced me to discontinue the True Dimensions operation at that time. It should we noted that we made or revised other models at that time, including the 1954 Dodge Indy 500 pace car, as well as a number of different Ertl models. We also made a number of 1/25 scale models for various companies and for our own release. Please contact me at dirn44@gmail.com, if you have other questions I can answer.
Here are some photos of the models in question
