So these were my thoughts on how the show field would look... I had planned on a setup that was featured across the road from Wally's Shell in a small lot that didn't have any other real purpose. So this setup was the 1st day-used to iron out any difficulties and irregularities that would show up in the photos I take. With this 1st set I discovered the area was too small to really reflect a decent show field-now keeping in mind that the setup couldn't be too big for capturing the details I was looking for. I set up a better field on my 2nd day, unfortunately before I could get any photos, the weather rained me out-a bit of rain we weren't supposed to get in the early afternoon-Hey that's Michigan weather for you...
The concept was to have a small car show that is sponsored by Wally's Shell Service Station.
Wally's is a small "50's style" gas station that exists on the edge of small town-way out on an old road that doesn't get much traffic these days. Wally's saving grace, is Wally himself is a superb mechanic and has trained a couple young guys to help him out with the repairs. So his reputation is well known in the entire area, he keeps many classic cars on the road with his expertise-he even gets a considerable amount of business from the classic car dealer, Merritt Motors, that operates in town. More on him at a later date. So Wally started the local car shows a few years ago, every weekend there is a gathering of nice cars from the surrounding towns. Most of them have had his wrench on them at some point to stay running. With the help of Merritt Motors, Wally's Shell has always put on a good show. Cars arrive and leave throughout the day-so to really see all there is to see, it becomes an "all-day" event for the spectators.
So here are a couple of photos I took of the complete show field.
1st shot-just for fun, here's one in B&W
and a similar shot of the full field (or as much as I could fit in) this is the start of day-early morning as cars are still arriving.
The rest of these shots are of the show field-also taken at the start of the day when cars are still arriving. More photos will be shown as time goes on, these will feature a better view of each individual car as it gets a "center-stage" view from different angles as I like to do. Stay tuned as they are finished up and presented. Thanks for looking.

Great diorama, John. I think my favorite is the Willys! And for some unknown reason, the b&w photo just rings true to me. Many thanks for this fine post.
Wow, this is terrific. What a great idea because you can change the cars for a whole new scene.
Could it be that Wally's Garage and Merritt Motors has kicked off Wally's Weekend Show to look forward to? Wally says new vehicles are always showing up so there's always a reason to stop by.
This could be a bit interactive. It might be fun to post our own picture of whatever classic we roll up in as we drop by that day.
Wow! This is great, John. You are approaching the level of Michael Paul Smith's work. I'm just thankful Wally's has a field right across the street!!
Looking forward to seeing more of Merritt Motors...and the rest of the town.

Nice diorama and a great way to display models that can be changed out easily to change the scene a bit as the mood strikes you. Have you thought about adding people to the car show?
I think it would make an excellent diorama for future shots. It's time to come off the farm to the big city.
