1954 Panamerican Road Race Inception....

Chris; what brand is the '53 Olds HT; did you create the decals?  I sure hope you do the diorama!

@jack-daniels Hey Jack, that all looks great to me!! 😀 😀 

- The MINI GT '54 Lincoln-Panamerican  has WONDERFUL graphics (..but the interior is still screwed up, I will fix it  😫) 

- I had to REMOVE the skirts for accuracy. Also, I hastily, relocated the exhaust to the side; I'll correct it later.

- I found a supplier who has the correct 1/64 "Von Esser"  Corvette decals.

- The VERY best 1/64 1953 Corvette is made by Hot Wheels Elite  and thank GOODNESS it's correctly painted (white/red ). The hood opens too.

- The red wire-rims are modified M2  wheels.

- When I finish all the Vette mods,  I'll post pics.

Oh, oh....  I got busted! 😬 😬 😬 

- That 1953 Olds is made by M2, and I did NOT create the decals, but I did REMOVE the skirts and added mis-matched-colored steelie rims (many racers seem to have mis-matched colored wheels ).

- The PROBLEM is, unlike ALL the other 1/64 Panamerican  cars you see (and will eventually see ), this particular Olds was NEVER in the 1954 Panamerican  race, but it looks too good to not be used. 

-So yes, I'm cheating with this one, but only 50 guys on the planet PLUS YOU will ever know.  🙄 🙄 😏 

- I hope to fabricate a diorama, but who knows?  I'm VERY lazy! 😔 🙁 🙄 

Thanks Chris.  I agree the Olds would complement the Lincoln in such a diorama.  Oh....IMHO we have, by virtue of our age and retirement, earned the right to be lazy whenever we please!  Lol.

@chris Just ordered the '53 Olds, '54 Mercury and the '53 Vette (all in stock form) on ebay....thanks for the info Chris!

After I add some "black-wash"  to the rims, all the decals and "50 other details,"  this 1/64 '53 Panamerican  Corvette will be good enough for me!

A couple HWs Corvettes just arrived.  The packing was so good thought about not even opening them.  Have been screwing around with the old artwork and if I get that far will use that.  Keep us informed on how things are going and I will follow along an maybe complete this project.

HA! I JUST POSTED AN UPDATE!!

"My 1/64 La Carrera Panamerican 1954 Mexican Road Race  display/cars/diorama continues.

To replicate the somewhat famous Von Esser's Speed Equipment  '53 Vette, I started with a Hot Wheels Elite  '53, then drilled out the chassis, added screws (for easy access later  ), changed the wheels to "Dayton wires,"  then added period correct Road Race graphics. 

Next comes two driver figures & a bit of weathering."

GOOD LUCK but I should tell you.. GRAPHICS ARE AVAILABLE!!!....

Jack, let me know if you're interested in these "Von Esser"  graphics, I have two suppliers.

 Was surprised at the differences in two versions of the model.  The white model was four casting (Including the hood) while the red car had one casting for the complete body.  Also the interior dash was very nice on the white car and almost a generic version on the red car.  Always like the car with the soft top, so order a version that has a soft top, hope it fits.  Decided to paint the red model white and the rims red and see if I could finish something.  Will probably print some red wire wheel type inserts, that might make things look a little better.   Did order some decals, in case we never finish resizing the existing artwork. Like mentioned before never finished Gene' s 1/43 version even tho we made the decals.  May try and make a standing driver like the 1/43 Lincoln driver that Cricket made.

Great progress Jack.

1) Yes, two different HW '53 Vettes. I noted I purchased the "Elite"  (white) release. It has better detail, opening hood, etc.

2) I drilled out the rivets & tapped the holes for screws. I do this on all riveted 1/64 for EZ access later.

3) To get my 1/64 "Dayton wires,"  I pirated RED wheels from an M2 '32 Ford. With a bit of modification & weathering...they're good enough for me.

4) I wish you luck with your 1/64 standing figure.  Eventually, I'll find 2 "drivers,"

5) Lastly, the only "1/64"  '53/'54 Vette I'm aware of with a "top-up"   is RC's, but it's more like 1/59 scale and the top is diecast, molded in with the body.  Hopefully, you found a better "soft top"  to work with.
