1972 AMC Matador by GREENLIGHT

I recently came across this interesting 1972 AMC Matador in 1/64 scale by Greenlight. There are several variations.

 Here are two carded examples.

 There is also a taxi version. (The loose versions here were found on the internet.)

I remember the car from 50 years ago, but never knew anyone who owned one. When you buy these carded 1/64 cars are usually leaving them as purchased and not opening the plastic packaging?

Generally yes at this stage. If I get two, I open the second but at this price point, I’m only getting one right now. Cheaper Matchbox and HotWheels, I buy two.

GL has released this Matador is numerous liveries and although a Police car (black/white) version is available, I've yet to see an "ADAM-12"  (LAPD) iteration. Afterall, I ASSUME that's why GL "tooled up"  this particular AMC replica in the first place.  I wonder if licensing agreements fell through -or- perhaps GL has it scheduled for 2023.

Does anyone know?

@chris

DoubleGDiecast did it in 1/64 but I am not aware of a Greenlight version although they did a few police Matadors.

DoubleGDiecast version.

What I'm saying is.....    I'm not sure why GL hasn't released an "ADAM-12"  (LAPD) version yet.  This Police livery is close, but it's not "ADAM-12."

Why would they put green wheel covers on this model?

@bob-jackman Regardless the manufacture, practically 100% of the time, "goofy body colors" or "no color" (just cast, chrome or gold plated bodies) or "goofy wheel treatments" (like these green rims here) represent "chase models."

Theoretically, "chase models," because of their "limited supply," are sought after because their values increase.

I believe HOT WHEELS, more-or-less, created this "mass obsession" over "chase cars" with their "Treasure Hunt" series decades ago.
