M2 has just recently released a new version of the 68-69 Dodge Darts. They did an amazing job on them. I went on the hunt as soon as I learned of them and collected these four variations. They are from the Drivers Series with no opening doors or hoods, but that's OK...
Here they are set free
This one is just as gorgeous, but I didn't really care for the hole in the hood with the scoop sticking through it.
So I made my own scoop to attach to the hood from the Evergreen Modelers Plastic. I also gave it a wheel swap.

Those Darts look superb ! They definitely did a terrific job on these models and it would be tough choosing between them. Your solution might be best.... just get them all !
I have the Highway 61 1/18 version of this Dart in green with the mod top option.
Great looking models. I prefer no opening doors and hood. Looks more realistic without the large door gaps.
I never understood how Lesney/Matchbox and Corgi could do nice fitting opening doors on the 1960s castings, and with all the modern computer tooling technology of today M2 has door gaps you could stick a penny in (????)
M2s door gaps became unacceptable to me at a point.
I started selling and trading them off and buying the Drivers series.

I was at Hobby Lobby today, where they have a variety of 1/64 scale diecast cars. They had some new M2 models. One was a 1970 Mustang Boss 302. Unfortunately, the door gaps were too large, and the side stripes were not lined up correctly due to door alignment. I did not buy it. I
wish M2 would have not had opening doors on this model. Everything else was very nice.

Unfortunately, that was and still is a major problem with those M2 castings, not to mention Hobby Lobby prices being through the roof. I hate to be a critic about any diecast, but M2 has had major quality control problems for several years. Fellow collectors have made You~Tube videos concerning the issues as well as posting complaints on various sites. I know I have experienced many issues and gave up on them with opening doors. This 50 Years Mustang set was the straw that broke the Camel's back. I paid over 10 dollars for it and had to disassemble and rework and readjust every piece on both castings.
I went on a venture collecting pics of M2's quality issues and was amazed what I had found.
Even their new releases are continuing the same issues, like this new GMC Sierra with figures. They all look like the frame is bent.
It seems with buying M2 diecast it is a "Hit or Miss" deal if you get a decent quality casting. I consider myself lucky that I had no issues with any of these Dart castings. I got to the point, if I found an M2 casting on the pegs, I opened it in the store and inspected it before paying for it. If I found defects I tool it to customer service and showed them. Most wound up being taped back up and back on the shelves. Another problem I am discovering is allot of my older Auto~Thentic castings of the 50s are developing what I call "Diecast Cancer".
Nothing I could really do about it, so I fixed them up a little and use them in my body shop or Bone Yard diorama displays...

Thanks for the pictures of your older models with the problems. I will have to check mine.
