Last year I was watching YouTube videos on creating 1:64th scale dioramas. However, what I saw was way above my skill level. Then wandering round a collector's market on a beautiful summers day I found a trader who had some Hornby Skaledale buildings. These looked more in keeping with 1:64th scale so I made my selection and made the purchase. Back home I made a diorama base with grey board, used emery cloth for the road and strips of balsa wood for the pavement sections. Once completed I placed the Skaledale buildings in situ. Not too much work undertaken by me but delighted with the result. In this close-up street scene, it shows the following Hornby Skaledale buildings:

R9632 Golden Dragon Chinese Takeaway

R8621 Left Hand Mid-Terraced

R8622 Right Hand Mid-Terrace

The model car out in front is a Kyosho KY101023 Ferrari 330 P4 Race Car #6 and is 1:64th scale. Not really the type of car to be seen outside a British outline terrace house street but it was easy to get at! Kyosho models are aimed at collectors and have amazing detail for this scale.

The lorry in the background is a Märklin 8032 Mercedes-Benz LPS 315 ‘Aral’ petrol tanker. When new this toy truck was available from the mid-1950s to the early 1970s. In a 1963 Märklin catalogue the scale stated is 1:45th but in their 1968 and 1971 catalogues scale slightly increased to be 1:43rd. Using measurements for a real vehicle gained from an old Observers book on commercial vehicles it is closer to 1:55th scale. BTW the LPS designation broken down is L Lastkraftwagen (truck), P for Pullman implying Pullman car comfort in the cab and S Sattelschlepper (articulated tractor unit). The full scale vehicle was built from 1955 until 1957.

Given the scale differences between these two models I decided on using selective focusing.

Happy New Year and have a grand year for adding to your collection.

Great idea with the Skaledale buildings, Chris. Would not mind some of those. Your diaramaworks well despite the scale differences for your two sample vehicles.
