@chris

Hi Chris,

 The 1-E Mercedes-Benz truck was certainly one of the longer lived Matchbox models, the record however,

goes to 29-F Shovel Nose Tractor that was released in 1976 and finally deleted at the end of 2014.

I loved this one and the other MBox army models....played with them for many hours and of course none survived the rigors of war..lol.  I have most of them in my collection.

I'm beginning to think that despite being spoiled and having a TON of MB & HW cars as a kid, I really had just a few pounds. 😫  I continue to be amazed by the sheer number of MB cars I frankly never-ever knew about.

I LOVE THIS FORUM SERIES!

63-B, Alvis Salamander Foamite Crash Tender,  1/100 scale. Introduced 1959, discontinued 1964.

Red with white plastic Airport Crash Tender on each side and a white plastic ladder. Black plastic wheels. Silver metal base.

This is a very hard model to get complete as white plastic fittings are usually lost. Not a good idea as decals or stickers would have lasted better.

The Alvis Salamander was developed in 1956.

It shares the same common six-wheel-drive chassis and other components with the Saladin armoured car and Saracen APC. The Stalwart load carrier was derived from the Salamander. All these were produced by Matchbox.

I saw a real live Alvis Salamander when I visited Rolls-Royce in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire back in the early 1990's. Yep it was still being used.
