EARLY MATCHBOX (Moko/Lesney/Matchbox)

67-B,C.  Volkswagen 1600TL,  1/61 scale. Introduced 1967, discontinued 1972.

1967 to 1969, red body, clear windows, white interior, unpainted metal base, chrome metal hubs with black plastic tires. Doors open.

A rare version with a brown luggage rack on the roof was issued only in gift set No.4.

1969 Canada only in purple but otherwise everything the same as the first red issue.

1970 to 1972, purple with Speedwheels now worldwide. Purple colour sometimes as light as pink, but also a scarce version with red body with Speedwheels.

Purple got more purple in carded issues.

I recently got this red one in my collection.  I didn't realize that the purple version was Canadian.

Very nice, I like it but it's one I do NOT remember.

68-A,  Austin Mark 2 Radio Truck,  1/87 scale. Introduced 1959, discontinued 1965.

Army green varying to dark green, with black plastic wheels.

This was another one that I recently discovered I had neglected to add to my collection.  Got it now though.

68-B,  Mercedes-Benz Coach,  1/90 scale. Introduced 1966, discontinued 1969.

1966 -  Sea green with white top, white interior, painted metal base and black plastic wheels. Came boxed or in bubble pack.

1967 to 1969 - Orange with white top, white interior, painted metal base and black plastic wheels. Boxed or bubble package which may, or may not contain box.

@david-green I have the orange...had the blue one stolen....searching for another.

I remember that blue one only but haven't seen one in years. ....good memories! 😆 😉 

68-C,  1966-67 Porsche 910,  1/54 scale. Introduced 1970, discontinued 1974.

Issued a bit later than most of the Matchbox cars shown in these posts, this one came in metallic red with a white and black No.68 sticker on the nose.

It has an unpainted metal base, white interior and yellow tinted windows. Offered with Speedwheels only.

This was offered in 1971 in Europe only, in white usually, but not always without the No.68 sticker.

Don't have any memories of this one at all.  At "1/4 scale"  you'd think I'd remember a Matchbox big enough to ride! 😏 😏

Good point Chris. Now edited. Largest Matchbox car that I have is a 1/24 scale Jaguar XJ 220.

69-A,  Commer 30 CWT Van,  1/91 scale. Introduced 1959, discontinued 1964.

1959-63 - Maroon body with Nestle's decal on each van side. Cab doors slide open. Grey plastic wheels.

1964 - Changed to red body.

Don't remember this, never saw it.... but I love it!

I have 3 of these vans...not sure why???
