Matchbox Superfast 8-e Ford Mustang.

This Mustang joined the Matchbox range in 1966, first in white. White issues are rare today commanding high prices at auction.

Part way through 1970, the paint was changed to orange red. The rarest of these was the initial series with a white interior. These are also highly sought after

Here is that issue.

Hi David

This is an excellent example of a hard to find model.

I had the original white version which had chrome wheels hubs with separate tyres and steering. This was played with and now is chipped.

However, a good few years ago I managed to find another original issue in mint boxed condition.

Thanks for sharing.

Chris

I believe I still have one of the white versions. If I recall, it has a lever on one side that steers the front wheels. I looked for a photo, but I don't have one. These are still packed away. I'll need to track it down. Unfortunately, as with many of my early Matchbox cars , it is "played with" condition. Hey I was a kid when I got it. LOL!

I sold one of these a couple of years ago; I was the original owner. I was never a big fan of the Superfast models, so this one almost never got played with. It was a lot more valuable as an investment than a plaything...who knew?? LoL

@daveg Nobody knew. It was a toy, a limited production run, most were played with and crashed and those that remain in mint condition are worth a huge amount of cash.

Matchbox  8-e1 Ford Mustang in white with steering.

Here is the original 1966 issue in white with plastic black tires on chrome hubs and a steering slot on the base. Note the 'patent pending' on the base.

Next came a very rare orange version with steering. This one shows the patent number.
