The Shrock Brothers have done a whole series of Studebaker automobiles and trucks, first in 1/43 and 1/64 but generally in 1/72 scale. This Forces of Valor 1/72 diecast metal airplane is also in 1/72 scale and represents Lt. George Welch's P-40B Curtiss Warhawk as it flew in defense of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. FoV does a number of aircraft, tanks and other vehicles in generally 1/72 scale diecast metal.
Since I also collect diecast airplanes, I like seeing your model. I have the 1/48 scale version from Carousel1. Due to the specific model’s connection with Pearl Harbor attack, this is one of the most famous P-40s. I have a question about the FoV model. How easy was it to attach the landing gear? From my experience, the ease of doing this varies, and sometimes requires super glue type adhesives.

It seemed to be fairly straightforward and I have them attached right now in the down position on the diecast FoV P-40B. George Welch went on to become a top test pilot for North American Aviation and was later to lose his life to the phenomena of "inertial coupling" while testing the N.A. F-100A jet fighter in 1953.
Some of you might remember the 1970 movie Tora, Tora, Tora about the Pearl Harbor attack. The movie includes the story of George Welch and fellow pilot Ken Taylor during the attack.

Some very brave pilots took their heavily-outnumbered P-40's aloft that day.
I have another question. Do you have any 1/72 scale diecast planes from other manufacturers, such as Hobbymaster, Gemini, Air Force 1, etc.? I am curious how they compare (Level of detail, overall fit and finish) to your FoV model. Thanks.

Hi Ed : I have a number of plastic scale aircraft models I built in 1/72 and other scales, but in diecast metal 1/72 pre-built form, I have the Forces of Valor Mitsubishi Zero, MiG- 3 Russian fighter and the Junkers Stuka dive bomber. They are all really nice and I additionally have a pre-built plastic prototype Chance-Vought XF4U-1 Corsair in plastic.
I currently don't have any of the Hobbymaster, Gemini or AirForce 1 replicas, but they definitely must be extremely good models and would certainly display great !
Hobbymaster has a very large selection of diecast planes. Most are 1/72 scale, but they have some 1/48 scale and two 1/32 scale ones. Overall detail and finish are very good. However, installing landing gear and landing gear doors is not always easy. Gemini 1/72 scale WW2 planes (P-51B, Spitfire, BF-109) are very good. I have four P-51Bs and two each of the others. They also had a F-15 and F-16. I have a F-16, which is very good. Unfortunately, these are no longer in production. They still make 1/200 and 1/400 scale airliners. Air Force 1 has many models, but I have never seen any.

They sound like really nice replicas ! When Boeing was headquartered in their high-res skyscraper in downtown Chicago near the Chicago River, they had a gift/model shop on their ground floor that I occasionally visited while going to the photo lab near Lake and DesPlaines Street. They had many 1/100, 1/200 and 1/400 plastic replica aircraft and airliners, as well as some models built in basswood. They were all very good-looking models.
I remember the Boeing store. I visited it a few times. Separate question, where do you buy your FoV models?

I got my FoV replicas at a nearby Wal-Mart. I haven't checked in quite in quite a while but they were reasonably priced. Besides some older AFV injection plastic models, I also have some tanks done very nicely in diecast metal, too. A U.S. Lee/Grant and a German tank destroyer..
If you plan to buy more diecast airplanes or military vehicles, let me know. I will recommend some places.
