it is still a good looking model, and the box is in excellent condition.

Nice one, David ! I still also have a grey-tire version, but I am not sure which version I got first. I remember I bought one and later received a 1907 Rolls MoY as a gift but that I prized both.
$1.98 - that was a bit much, but I think I paid that much as well. We were livin' high on the hog as kids! 😉Â

Lol, Karl ! Yep, how excessive and spendy we could be !

What I would like to know is how you kept the box in such good condition.
Lol. Ed ! I think this is the second "black tire' version I got which is a bit newer and still has the box. Probably now days a good box can be worth as nearly as much as the MoY model itself !
@mikedetorrice Hi Mike It was your amazing photos on the old Legacy Forums that helped me re-evaluate the detail Lesney put into these pocket money toys. It isn't just the rivet detail but Lesney even managed to cast in the number plate AX 201. Lesney's replica is after the real vehicle's renovation which was completed by Rolls-Royce in the early 1950's. OK Lesney got the colour wrong but there are two thoughts here: first one is that silver would have been boring and kids wouldn't buy the model and the second is that they couldn't get the right silver paint.

Hi Chris : A lot of us got a start in automobile models and classics like these Lesney replicas. It is astonishing that we had to think carefully about spending a whole $ 1.98 to purchase this cool model !
It is quite interesting they modeled this Rolls-Royce replica on a real restored automobile. They likely had to make certain allowances for what was producable and what would sell.
