58 years ago on Valentines Day 1964 The Lines Brothers Group (Tri-ang) purchase Meccano Limited for £781,000.

Now Spot-On and the Dinky Toys brands are under one umbrella. Eventually Tri-ang's home grown Spot-On brand looses out to the more globally known Dinky Toys. Spot-On model cars died in 1967 but 1:42nd scale lived on in a number of new Dinky Toy releases from 1964. The last being the Foden lorry in military, tipping and artic petrol tanker guises from 1976 to DT's demise in 1979.

Then in small scale we have the Minix range of model cars mainly devised to support Tri-ang Railways in OO scale. A variety of older Minic models in a range of scales which by the mid 1960's were obsolete and still languished in toy shops until the 1970's. Minic Motorways slot system was also there to support Tri-ang Railways but the cars were to a slightly bigger scale approaching 1:64th. Then later this slot system developed racing circuits to contrast with traffic systems proposed when first issued. Mini-Dinky with cars issued in 1:65th started life as Car Lines before adopting the Mini-Dinky branding. Arising from this range were the Top Gear series with fast wheels which Tri-ang were hoping would compete with Hot Wheels and Superfast. Then only seven years after the take-over Tri-ang went bust.
