1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 , the car that saved BMW.

Accoring to a well known Dutch carmagazine called Autovisie, the 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 saved BMW way back in the early fifties.
The BMW 501 was very underpowered with it's 6-in-line and it had a lot of qualtity issues that brought the marque close to bankrupty.
The new V-8 from the Olds became the example from which the German engineers engineered their smaller V-8.
But they made their car far too expensive and not many were sold.photo no longer available

That’s a 1950 Olds. One piece windshield and fender trim spears. Had a ‘50 & two ‘49’s.
