Yes, I too REALLY like the look of '55 Oldsmobiles George.....

HOWEVER, most collectors/historians, etc...  agree (and it's difficult to argue otherwise ) that the 1954 Oldsmobiles were (are ) some of the BEST looking cars of that decade. 😎 😎 😎

No argument from me.  To my eyes the '54, '55, '56, and '57 Oldsmobile's were styling classics then and still are today.

The '55 Oldsmobile 88 is nice, but if I had to single out one '55 Oldsmobile model it would be the '55 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight 2-Door Holiday Hardtop.

To me the lines flow much better than the 88 and Super 88.

Like the man said wouldn't life be boring if we all liked the same things.

I will agree with regarding the Ninety-Eight.  In your photo example though, I'd have to have the fender skirts put on and the front fenders lowered slightly.  Then to my eyes, it's gorgeous.

For me, I think the '54 and '55 Oldsmobile's were great lookers and they in '56 they got it perfect.

Personally, I would ignore all the great looking (by consensus ) 1950's Oldsmobiles and go with the '58, the undisputed "King of chrome!"   The apex of factory excess.... never again would GM "troll on"  chrome as they did in 1958 across all line-ups.

Break out the wax & shades boys, do not look at the chrome in direct sunlight!   😎 😊 😎 😏

The only thing that could make this chrome dripping behemoth look worse is a pink and green paint job.

@jack-dodds Totally agree Jack. How anyone could come up with the 58 after the beautiful 57 is beyond me.

I love the '58!  Chrome was in vogue in '58 and no car paraded off the assembly line than Oldsmobile.  When I was 7 years old, my parents owned a '58 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eights 4-door hardtop and I remember our neighbors all coming over to look at it.  It was a car of awe!  And to my eyes then and to myt eyes today, IT'S BEAUTIFUL!

Wow, pretty cool!  I've never known anyone who had one.  I fully realize many consider the '58s to be an abomination, but of course it was really just a product of its time. However, I think even Martians  would be shocked to see a '57, '58, & '59 Oldsmobile line up:

"Do not insult our intelligence Earthlings, it's quite clear that the '58 doesn't belong there, there is no logical progression... it does not compute, it does not compute."

😆 😀 😆 😀

I love the 1958 Oldsmobile, too ! My nursery school teacher and her husband 2 houses down had a beautiful shiny black 1958 Oldsmobile, my Dad had a 1958 Chevrolet Bel Air and our next door neighbors on the other side had a 1958 Pontiac. And 1958 was a recession year in the U.S. !
