This 1959 Imperial convertible was converted into an Imperial "Camioneta" pickup truck in the early 1960s. Even though being fond of the large convertible's over all appearance, somehow the large rear tail fins bothered me a little. Toning those down considerably and eliminating the back seat opened up the opportunity to make an "El Camino style pickup truck". A molded in Pontiac grille (actually a 1960 Edsel grille) seemed to work out nicely. With little effort, the truck was lowered as much as possible. The chopped top did come from a couple of 1960 El Camino junked parts acquired in a glue bomb transaction, if I remember correctly. Oh that top, that top with the curved back window, that really sparked the design for the "Camioneta". And the blue color was an experiment, too.
Thanks for looking...

I figured the grille was sourced from a '60 Edsel. Pretty wild custom!
@georgeschire The models being shown were, as I understand it, done very many years ago when the builders were kids. You should have seen some of my "creations' of AMT kits. Many, many hours spent as a kid.....all good fun. I think it's amazing that any of these survived all these years; I usually customized and recustomized my kits until there was not much left. Lol.
I remember I built a 1/25 scale 1964 Imperial as a kid. It was stock although at a later time I customized it into a show/dream car type of vehicle.

You are so right, Jack!
I really appreciate you pointing this out as I thought for sure it was a Pontiac due to its shape. And my failed memory about this build just assumed it was a Pontiac. But thinking back, it is an Edsel grille because I did modify one Edsel model leaving off its grille, so I'm pretty sure that is where the Imperial's grille is from. Thanks again.
