A Different BMW.
Here is the 1957 BMW Isetta 300 at 2014 Cobble Beach Concours d"Elegance.
This car sold well enough world wide to put BMW back on its feet after WWII.
Our Canadian answer to Pebble Beach is coming on September 16th.
Here is a fine concept Cadillac that took part in 2016.

As a kid I liked these wee cars - still do. I wonder if they could have a place in the modern world of today? Maybe not because if memory serves these wee bubble cars were often followed around by a thin cloud of smoke.
We had mostly Isettas around my area back then. Very much smoke!
God help you if you got hit!
I believe the other similar ones were Gogomobile and Messerschmidt??
All products of German companies getting back on their feet after the war..
I remember them coming to Britain in the '50s when they were popular for a time, especially when we had petrol rationing during the Suez Crisis. A work colleague of my Dad's owned a pink one which he called The Blancmange. The three wheel version had no reverse gear - damn nuisance if you forgot and parked up against a wall. In 1959 BMC produced the Mini which sold for less than these bubble cars and they lost their market overnight.
A genius move by Sir Alex.
$395 each in Canada in 1959.
I was tempted when several dealers in Toronto were clearing these Isettas out for $395 each late in 1959. I came very close to getting a couple. Wish I had because a mint one is now well over $50,000.
