a Noirish masterpiece

He Walked by Night (1948)

"If you like Dragnet (and who doesn’t) you will enjoy this film. Jack Webb, who later created the iconic role of Sergeant Joe Friday in the TV series that aired over multiple decades, is featured in this film. It’s got a couple of actors who later went on to mostly television and some movie fame, including Richard Basehart. There is no doubt that this is the film that spurred Webb to develop the series Dragnet, which is actually a term that is used multiple times in this movie. It’s in the style of the 1950s versions of Dragnet, that is semi documentary style, and while it’s a little slow moving and the production qualities are not outstanding, it’s a fun watch. It’s also fun to see scenes of Los Angeles from the late 40s. As I write this, it’s on Amazon prime video, and it’s definitely worth a watch."

Did anyone mention “Parish” with Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring in “Breaking Bad”)? Coming 31 March on AMC…

He's also in "The Gentlemen", I can't remember if it's on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

"Gentlemen" (the series based upon the movie) is solid entertainment in an attractive package......I`m about to run Ep05.......about 2Eps/day seems to hit the sweet spot for me......more Guy Ritchie than that in one setting tends to cause brain shrinkage..........Gus Fring has made a couple appearances, shot from a lower vantage point than what we saw in breaking bad......he as much said that he`d be back with a heap o` bad news

03252024....just now put paid to this convoluted story.......no matter how you watch it........you`ll be very well appreciated for your efforts

Renegade Nell

Nell.....might work out quite well..................hands-full of Robin Hood looking people leaping about gratuitously......magical elves taken internally....cinematic excellence

@john-barry - thanks! I’m inclined to watch most anything WW2 oriented, especially true-life historical documentaries…

Enjoyed this one, Jeff Daniels is great in it. He was also very good in the series "Newsroom". I think it was on HBO I guess about 10 years ago. I hope there will be a few more seasons of "American Rust - Broken Justice".
