In July 1973 as a 21 year old kid, I was preparing, along with my girlfriend Lorraine for our wedding. We had decided to purchase a NEW car together along with the usual furniture items we would be needing. That NEW car was a '73 Plymouth Gold Duster with the then popular, "slant-six engine"!
Up to this point in my life, the check I wrote for the car was the biggest check I'd written. Now remember, this was 1973, but still the cash amount for the car was a whopping $3,091. I was so nervous, I messed up the check I was writing out and had to write out a second one.
Our wedding I spoke of, took place in January 1974 and as some of you on the Forum know, Lorraine and I celebrated our 50th anniversary this year. While remembering our many great times together, our first car, this Duster, came up today. Here is our brochure and thank you letter from the dealer for our purchase. Though the Gold Duster has long been gone, the special memories of it and all of our happy times together still make us smile.

A used '73 Plymouth Duster with the Gold Duster pack was my first car. Mine was a dark green metallic w/matching interior & a white canopy vinyl roof, it had the 225 CID slant sis engine also.

My first car was a used 68 Dodge Dart, with the slant 6 but it as the smaller 170 cid. Those slant six engines were great along with the torqueflite 727 automatic, they never let you down. I put over 200,000 miles on mine and it finally burnt a valve on a trip from NY to SC. Decided then to rebuild the engine and keep it going. Finally sold it with approx 208,000 miles. Oh and the best part, was that I only paid $350 for the car.
When I got hired as a postman in summer of 73 the post office I worked at had 68 Dodge Darts or Plymouth Valiants with the slant 6 engines they were indestructible what a great car they were.
