@john-barry Thanks JB although I'm not too sure about the jewel part.

Bob,
I'm in love & lust with your Thunderbird !
There are only 3 automobiles for 1963 that make the hair on my arm stand on end...your Thunderbird, Corvette, and Buick Riviera.
I'm sure that we'll NEVER EVER see such beautiful rolling exquisite automotive designs.
What a shame... 🙁

I've known a few guys that have painted cars in their driveway with terrific results. Bob, your restoration work looks pretty damn good. Nice "Bird!" I've always liked these, but honestly, all that "electrical complexity" (similar of course to Skyliners & slab-side Lincolns) of those convertible tops scares the hell out of me.
Do you understand all those solenoids, switches, relays & harnesses or do you farm that work out?
@chris Chris, it has always been my opinion that Ford and electrics are a questionable proposition and my car is no exemption. To answer your question, over the years I have learned to trouble shoot some of the problems that pop up from time to time with the top mechanism and at other times have had to get help. When I restored the car in the nineties I had the system rebuilt by a friend who was an expert on this kind of thing. Two years ago I rebuilt the entire system again including all of the hoses as while they looked good, they generally deteriorate from the inside out. I have found that you must exercise the system to keep it operational which I do. People love to see the top function so I will sometimes show it off at a show or cruise in.
@georgeschire George, Thanks. Not sure about my expertise, but I am certainly an "OLD" car guy. Many years ago my mother attended a car show where I was showing my 1958 Impala. Please understand that my mother couldn't have cared less about cars besides them being reliable transportation....anyway, this guy walks up to mom and asked her if I was always car crazy...her reply? "yes. I must have dropped him on his head when he was a baby" I never asked mom a question that I didn't want an answer to.

LOL, too funny! And if your mother did drop you on your head when you were a baby and the result was your loving old cars, then I'd consider her having given you the best gift she could give.
