From the SERIOUSLY YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP DEPARTMENT

This afternoon while at lunch with a friend, we had this exchange.

FRIEND:
So get this, I finally went through my mail yesterday.
When I saw a flyer (see photo below he shared with me) from Great Lakes, I'll admit I was a little confused.
When I saw that it was an advertisement for the Spring Fling, a yearly event at my former employer, I was even more confused. I asked myself out loud, "Why am I still on the mailing list?".
Then I saw the postmark.
No disrespect to the post office, but I'm thinking it's time to admit the reality of the situation.... you are now federally contracted Amazon delivery drivers. The rest of what you deliver is the junk man's business.

ME:
WOW!  Talk about "Snail Mail".  Or is it the 1800's again?

FRIEND:
No, it was delivered on time. I just hadn't looked through my mail for a year.  That was my point.

ME:
What?  When you said you "finally went through your mail yesterday", I thought maybe it's been a few days since you looked through the mail. And seeing the postmark on the flyer (see pics below), it appeared that the mail was indeed slow (or lost) for a year. Are you saying that you've not went through your mail for a year?  You're scaring me!
In my mind I'm envisioning me, not going through my mail for a year and the mail would fill a room all of its own. I then said, I think a years worth of mail might be the definition of the word Hoarder.

FRIEND:
Oh, I'm not a hoarder.  I just haven't looked at my mail.

ME:
ONLY THINKING TO MYSELF and NOT SPEAKING OUT LOUD, "You're an idiot!".
Thankfully our food came, so we could move on to something else.

Moral of this back and forth for me was, it's better to think someone is an idiot, than to have them open their mouth and prove it.

That's totally insane!  I hate having mail pile up, so I go thru it as soon as it's delivered.  I even pay my bills the day they're received.  Is something wrong with me?

We're on the same page Pete!  When I get the mail, it's looked at and taken care of the same day.  My bills are paid immediately and junk flyers, brochures, and ads are tossed in the recycle bin right away.

And my mind is still imagining the stacks of flyers, brochures, and ad cards I'd have piled up if I'd just ignored them for a year.  There's no way I can make sense of that, and yet this dude was oblivious to the fact that he was proving he was a nut-job.

However here's a side comment regarding this guy...he also doesn't believe in ever washing his car!  And he seriously doesn't!  So I rest my case, that he's an idiot!  I've known him for over 20 years, and about once or twice a year we hook up for lunch.  I always shake my head.  The good thing is, he gives me plenty of material to tell others about.  This mail story, I couldn't pass up sharing.

Laugh

LOL.  I wonder if he has any utilities still working in his residence.  Sounds like he has  a pathological case of "nobody's gonna make me do anything I don't want to".

LOL, you're pretty close.  This dude, though a long-time friend, is a weird duck in many ways.  If I spend too much time with him, I seriously consider seeking counseling after our visits.  I could write a book on his quirks.

I do & have always processed my mail when it arrives, except 2022 May 18 to Sept 1, what a pile, especially with $600,000+ in medical bills.
