LOL! But, really, not much has changed other than portability. Every generation has its distractions that are a mystery to the previous generation. I remember my dad telling me the earbud for my transistor radio would start growing out of my ears if I didn't take it out every now and then..and I wasn't allowed to listen during supper! *GASP* But then, his generation had their own type of cell phone.

I wonder if pedestrians in your dad's time had to zig-zag along the pavement, trying to avoid on-coming newspaper readers? Did they do the crossword while hurrying to the subway?

@jkuvakas  I can understand the cartoon section being a priority for commuters but it's downright unsafe to not focus on your surroundings otherwise.
