@jkuvakas Nice! Caribbean destination?
We're sailing out of NYC, headed to the Bahamas, and then on to Bermuda. It's a 14-day cruise with a 3-day layover in Bermuda. We have found that cruises are some of the best vacation deals available. You can get a cabin on a ship for a relatively cheap price. That takes care of your lodging and food. There's a ton of things to do onboard. If you don't go crazy buying other stuff and paying for upgrades, it can be a thrifty and relaxing vacation.

@100ford2003 Indeed, with technical advancement can also come complacency. This was true of Titanic in 1912 as it was one hundred years later with the Costa Concordia in 2012 (not forgetting Andrea Doria which was error again with the mixing-up of North Atlantic traffic routes). However, I sense our own Captain, John K. will be quite safe.
Kelly and I are frequent cruisers. We head out again on Sept 1.
How cool! Can you say where the cruise is going?
We have loved our cruises, but, good grief, a guy could gain 20 pounds on the things!
I've never been on a cruise but I think I've just gained 15 plus pounds reading these posts !

@perrone1, the trick is not to eat everything! I'm to tell good at that.
We're leaving out of NYC, headed to the Bahamas, then Bermuda.

NOW you tell me! We did 2 Bahamas cruises; Nassau & Grand Bahamas and Nassau and Antilles. They are wonderful. We then sailed the Baltic Sea and did one to all the islands in Hawai'i and one to the inner passage of Alaska, Yukon and down to British Columbia.
We did the Baltic Sea cruise from Denmark to Sweden to Leningrad, Russia when it was still Leningrad and still Soviet communist. From there to Finland, Gotland Island & Visby Sweden - so since I figured we'd never go again I did EAT EVERYTHING! Reindeer, caviar, Russian vodka, borscht, good grief, you name it, I tried it!
You chowed down on Rudolph? OMG!

Oh no! He's far too important to snack on. Remember the others who, "used to laugh and call him names"? LUNCH!
When did you take the trip to the Baltic and Leningrad? I was in Leningrad in 1987 as part of a trip to the Soviet Union.

I believe I just saw a video about cruises to certain countries and if I'm not mistaken Bermuda only has one fast food restaurant and it's a KFC. They prohibited other fast food restaurants in Bermuda because they didn't want to detract from their local restaurants and eateries. Does this sound about right cuz I don't know where I saw it over the last couple days so I can't recall it.

I just googled it and yes that's true a KFC open there in the 1970s but after that Bermuda band the opening of fast food restaurants so as to keep their mom and pop and local restaurants open. I absolutely love that. I visited a little mom and pop Mexican restaurant in Oceanside today and had the best carnitas torta ever. I love this little restaurant. It's called Sinaloa Mexican seafood. They only have six tables in the place and it's the mom and dad and their son that cook and take care of all the customers. Every time I have a drive down to San Diego I try to visit them. The company that I work for is based in Anaheim near Disneyland.

1990 Ed. An eye-opening experience. At the end of the communist cycle they were open to few outsider visits as I'm sure you know. Still saw bread & supply lines, war references everywhere and old cars. The people were terrific as were the winter & summer palaces, opulent shows and museums.
