It really is comical, wearing hearing aids, what you think you hear when NOT wearing them! These are good David - I can readily identify!
I went for a hearing test a few weeks ago, NEVER go on an empty stomach. I was so embarrassed. 😂
I was told my selective hearing is exceptional, just ask my wife.😁It really is comical, wearing hearing aids, what you think you hear when NOT wearing them! These are good David - I can readily identify!

Without aids I have the most trouble hearing the frequency of women's and children's voices. Shirl accused me of selective hearing before I started wearing hearing aids about 10 years ago. My audiologist has assured her on a couple of visits, that that is not the truth - I just cannot understand her words without hearing aids.
I have had hearing aids for 6 years....wore them once about 6 years ago. Q-Tips are tolerable but that's about it. Why do these companies make the assumption that we want to hear everything said and going on around us I will never understand.
Like you Tony the sound band affected is relative to women's voices, which I personally see as a marriage survival tool. All a hubby needs is the ability to hear the basic tone of the voice and see the facial expression to know if he should nod in agreement, say "yeah for sure" or say a generic "sorry".
I have been told that our declining ability to hear and understand female voices as we age is natures way of helping us survive. I have noticed it myself over the last few years. So far, I have resisted hearing aids.
Jack / David; I hear you. (Pun intended)
My first set of hearing aids was expensive. Far better than these cheap devices on the market that are little to nothing more than sound amplification plugs. But as my hearing worsened, by and large from firearm shooting over the course of most of my life, I needed a new set.
Although these, now about a year old, are not the most expensive and way more inexpensive than my last pair, they are head and shoulders better than the previous set. United Healthcare paid for half of the cost where they did not previously and I get batteries and filters free for each year.
When we have company or in a restaurant, I can isolate the talk at our table and dismiss that of the rest of the building. I have set parameters for all sorts of events and with the Starkey App on my phone, it is easy to do. I have settings for TV, movies, outdoors, quiet conversations and more. The hearing aids have fall sensors and after a set amount of time, will call for help if I do not get up. They pair with a TV or car telephone/music so that I can hear directly with little or no outside interference etc. The trick is knowing how much time during the day you can stand them. I can wear them all day and be comfortable and at other times I care to hear very little, and these give me that choice.
These are Starkey aids. I think they are the Genesis model.
@perrone1 Wow they sure sound high tech Tony; especially the medical aid application.
