If we can skip the usual diatribes about electric cars for a moment and look at their capabilities, we can see something amazing happening. They are producing an all-new paradigm of speed combined with comfort.Â
Look at these numbers for two four-door, full-sized sedans.
No factory ICE cars come close to these while taking the whole family to the drag strip in comfort and then stopping for ice cream on the way home. They're expensive, yes. But the top-of-the-line performance cars have always been expensive. It's a new age of performance.Â

Some day people are going to come out from under the ether and find that electric cars and their support are not sustainable and are far more harmful to the environment that ICE.
How smart do you have to be, I ask facetiously, to race up to almost 150 mph wearing no helmet ?
Amazing performance without a doubt....but being an older guy I miss the traditional sounds.

Amen! Ya beat me to it Pal! When you talk about electric performance, the Rimac Nevera reaches the quarter-mile distance in 8.25 seconds. For gas, the closest competitor may be the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 with quarter mile time of 8.9 seconds. Then there is the Hennessey Venom GT which isn't exactly slow. Neither has the price tag of anything near the Rimac.Â
Of course there are ICE-cars that have been modified to turn the quarter in the 7's and yet be street legal. Electric propulsion may be the thing of the future. But to me, the best sounds are from the past & present.

Bob, I couldn't agree more!

As John K. "warned"Â against any diatribes or tangents I'll respect that, but I'm compelled to reply, and I'll say nothing further.
The chief reason for this argument is that fossil fuels are used to create electricity, therefore, EVs are not really "clean." However, EVs are far better for the environment if the electricity grid relies on cleaner energy sources. Globally we are not there yet, but one day we will be. Also, EVs can be recycled with greater efficiency than ICE vehicles. Factor in overall lower operating & maintenance costs, governmental subsidies/incentives, and all future improvements coupled with the billions spent on R&D...and well, EVs are here to stay, like it or not.
True, retail EV sales have slowed (commercial EV sale have sky-rocketed ) only because range anxiety is an issue; the EV infrastructure isn't here yet, but one day it will be.
The entire world realizes EVs have long term benefits, to say they all need to "come out from the ether" is to imply the entire world has it wrong and only the nay-sayers have it right. Â
OK, "CHRIS OUT."  I shant respond, speak, say or note anything further on this subject. I have very thick skin and can debate or respond indefinitely....BUT I WILL NOT. DONE!Â
- This one's for you John! LoL 😀 Â
The posters before me covered a lot of the bases, purchase price, distance to charge, TIME to charge etc. and I think that Tesla has done the best job of coming close to a commuter car, however as the current and previous owner of lots of ICE cars/trucks I have no desire to operate what is essentially is a sewing machine. As outlined by others there is more to the experience then speed . I do have a question thou, how come the moment the genius President Biden took office - {will leave for now the questionable election} Not one ICE vehicle manufacturer protested, or went to court to fight the transition, they rolled over and died on this issue. Nothing from the oil companies either ?  I apologize sort of to the Dems in the audience we have the same issues in Canada with the Chinese helping to elect our genius, racist Prime minister.  Check out 2000 mules.
@mick "....we have the same issues in Canada with the Chinese helping to elect our genius, racist Prime minister.'
LOL....you forgot "apologist" and "international embarrassment."
'Nuff said.
What's the point of going fast if you can not hear what is propelling it to do so?
Let's move on from the politics, gents.Â

My take on electric cars is that until they come up with a battery that lasts for long, long, long, long periods of time, they will NOT become popular by the masses. And I also believe that the oil companies are NOT going to allow them to take over. Not to mention the government that is controlled by the oil companies. So what it boils down to is electric cars will eventually be passing fad. And let's also not forget the cost! This whole electric car campaign is similar to the light rail being shoved down everyone's throat. It too, has proven to be a failed project. Â

It must be quite a rush to blast down the drag strip with that ETA! I wonder how these electric cars will ultimately affect traditional drag racing...if at all?
Will the current healthy interest be dampened when viewers are aware there is a "faster way" via electric?
I only have one thing to say : _I_ will be the judge of what I purchase ......no one else.
All I am lacking while enjoying my Tesla is Piloti driving shoes.
