"The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day"
Wonderful World of Disney, good ol` Eddie......Sunday nights were so very special
Yes it was a bit of an institution in its day and I loved it.....especially the oddball acts, like the Romanian Bowling pin jugglers or the Latvian plate spinners.
@jack-dodds .......It was, unfortunately, after his time....but wouldn`t it have been a hoot to have "Eddie" as murderer of the month on a very special episode of Columbo? ___________ "The MC and the broken European dishes"
You lookin' for suspense? Consider....."The Case of the Surprise Guest in the Audience".
I used to love George Carlin's spoof of Ed Sullivan's sometimes bumbling intros and comments to his audience about the strangest audience guests, etc. The funniest part of it was that Ed was actually serious; hence Carlin's take on him! Two of my favorites:
"Now tonight....right here in our audience.....we have....the world's largest nun!!.....where are you now?.....there you are....don't stand up sister!"
"Now later in our show tonight; just before.....now...was that just before or just after?......DURING the Parisienne Dancing Poodles, we have for your enjoyment, the aerial photographs of Kate Smith.........

the hippy-dippy weatherman was one I always watched out for ....The wave forecast called for "semi-primo bitchen" waves
@john-barry Sam Sleet! "Downtown the weather is warm, man.......but out at the airport it's HOT....the airport is on fire man!"
How about sportscaster Biff Barf? "Now we have an incomplete score just in from the west....Marshall Islands 13!"
