@marty-johnson California is very beautiful, especially if one has the luxury of living on the coast. That is what kept me there for many years, and the switch to San Francisco was also fine, as I eventually ended up on an island in the bay and there is no better way to exist than surrounded by water, in my opinion. Even with the cost of living in Europe being what it is it is much less expensive for me than living in California, especially when one takes into account the cost of health insurance and food. Oh, and there is only one taxman in Germany - federal. We do not pay state income taxes, but we do pay a hefty sales tax.
- Island on the bay? That must have been Alameda. I'm I right?@marty-johnson California is very beautiful, especially if one has the luxury of living on the coast. LOL! I cannot help but be amused and jealous of the "high" gas prices people are paying outside of California! We're routinely above $5/gal. However, still better than most of Europe, where prices exceed $8/gal. It's all relative.
LOL, gas prices here in Minnesota have risen .75 cents a gallon in the last week since the self proclaimed King residing in the Pennsylvania Ave. residence is exercising his dictatorship presence in other countries. A week ago, I paid $2.74 a gallon, last night I filled up for $3.49. One of our local news media outlets this morning said, "Expect the prices to go higher".

@georgeschire I assume those are the prices for regular. What is the current price for premium?

Sorry, I don't know the price of premium. I've never used it. Either way, a .75 cent increase is substantial and shouldn't happen.

Speaking of "state sales taxes" since 1967 when our then (Minnesota) governor Wendel Anderson instituted a "temporary" state sales tax of .3 cents on every dollar. I've of course learned that the definition of the word "temporary" is: FOREVER! All these five plus decades later we still have the state sales tax and in some localities it is as high 8.875%. What my problem has always been since the inception of this tax is, the average Joe Smoe goes to work, gets his paycheck with "state" and "federal" taxes deducted from his paycheck, and he gets his "net" pay. Then with that "net" check, he has to pay "sales tax" on stuff he buys. I'm sorry, but that's "paying a tax on a tax".
