The 1960 EDSEL
This last hurrah for Ford's EDSEL receives almost as much disdain as the 1958. Ironically, it is arguably the best looking EDSEL of its short three-year run. I think the reason I like the 1960 is because of its rarity.
It was a spectacular sales flop in 1958 and 1959. Returning for its third (and final) season, it was basically now a retrimmed version of the all-new 1960 full-size Ford. But sadly by this time, the EDSEL name was a national joke and being declared by the public as the definition of the word Failure. So from the beginning of production on the 1960 version, it was doomed and beyond saving.
EDSEL production stopped in late 1959 after only 2,846 of the 1960's rolled off the assembly line. The Ranger 4-door Sedan was the best seller with 1,288 units. When the smoke cleared, EDSEL ended its brief life as Ford Motor Company's "young executive" brand with Ranger sedans, hardtops, a convertible, and two Villager wagons.
As I said, it's probably the rarity of this EDSEL that draws me to more than anything else. I've always wondered, "What if?" EDSEL could have survived. This story in CARS & PARTS magazine portrays a nice memory of a car that barely had a chance to live.

LOL, when I was 9 years old in 1960, I remember asking my Dad how come some '60 Fords have the different taillights. He told me they were not Ford's but rather Edsel's. That was another reason that I think I liked them.

@georgeschire From my perspective I have always felt that the hideous tail lights completely ruin the look of this car. I have felt this way about it since the first time I ever saw it and think it is one of the worst looking cars of its era.
@jack-dodds, we all see beauty or lack thereof through our own eyes.

@georgeschire George.....you have such a nice way of telling me I have no taste in automobiles. Hey...I'm just kidding. Lol.
I like the '58 and '59 Edsel, the '60 not so much.
