In my opinion one of the most beautiful Dodge's ever! I love the styling of the roof-line, the reverse rear fins, and the slightly inverted grille. It looks almost customized, but it isn't. The Dodge boys, Horace and John would have been proud of this one bearing their name.
@brush I disliked it back in the day and still do. Just do not like the styling at all.
The styling was different, I'll grant you that. But when I line it up against any of the other '61's from all of the Big Three, with the exception of Plymouth and Chrysler, that Dodge is a beauty to my eyes.

1961 one of my favorite years for full-size American cars; love the Galaxie, Monterey, Bonneville, Coupe Deville; like the Impala, Le Saber.
Did not care for Lincoln, Chrysler Corp or AMC styling in '61-'64, '61 Dodge & Chrysler grew on me over the years but Plymouth no, still don't really care for Chrysler Products styling of that period.
To me, this is even uglier than the red '61 Plymouth Fury coupe which was our family car in the late 60s. In recent years, however, I have come to really like both for their, shall we say, styling uniqueness. You may stop by and take me for a ride in this distinctive Dodge anytime, George!

LOL, I've been told by some on this Forum that the word ugly is a poor adjective to describe a car, because a car can't be ugly. I've always respectfully disagreed.
For me, after the hard to look at '60 Plymouth, I thought the '61 was a work of art with its unique grille. And isn't it ironic that todays modern Toyota's and Lexus' cars are utilizing a similar grille design on their new cars.
1961 overall for American cars was a tough one. For General Motors I only liked the '61 Chevrolet, and for FoMoCo only the Mercury looked good to me. But over in the Chrysler Corporation camp, I thought the Chrysler's, Plymouth's and Dodge's were styling winners.
Like many of us have stated in recent months, I "strongly disliked" (not hated...lol) the 61 Plymouth back in the day but in recent years I have grown to like the Fury and the wagon for the unique styling....much to my surprise! I have even warmed up...a bit...to the 62 Dodge; but just can't get there with the 61.
