great looking, but wasn't the 302 a better handling car ?
Maybe....but today is 4 29
Aha !! I'm waiting for Z28 day.
Yes, and by a very, very wide margin! The Boss 429 was straight line only!

It did what it supposed to do quite well.
I had a friend that had a Boss 429 and another with a Boss 302. The 302 was more fun to drive but couldn't keep up with the 429 at the strip. Still, both cars served their purpose superbly.

Was the 429 available in the Mach 1? I was unaware.

Yup! The '71 Mach 1 had two engine options. The Windsor 351 and the other the 429 SCJ.
The SCJ could be enhanced with the Ram Air option. The Boss 351 featured the Cleveland engine.
BTW, this was NOT my actual car. Mine was exactly like this one. The license plate is me doing my usual Photoshop stuff.
Yes, the 302 was a 14 second car at the strip and the 429 a 13 second car.
My, my how times have changed.

I like that combination! The 429 in a car with all the goddies like a Mach!

I love the 71 Mach I in white.
Yes, modern engine performance is amazing but the old styling & sound are much nicer IMO.
