I have been thinking about all these sites doing preorders on diecast cars/trucks, some will give an expected arrival date of say March 2022 and every month they keep extending the date another month. On my Sox & Martin haulers it was 1 year 1 month before they finally shipped from when I first ordered one. Some sites don't list any expected arrival time to ship leaving you in the dark.
I think these companies need to become more realistic on when products will actually be available. These preorders are tying up credit cards for an extended period of time. If you have several diecast on preorder That can add up quickly tying up a large chunk of credit when you are purchasing higher quality diecast. I bring this up because if you don't pay attention and track these preorders closely you can end up in a bind. I keep a list on what I have on order so I don't get caught out. I know that dealers are not charging you until the product ships but you still have to keep open, depending on how many diecast you have on preorder, a large chunk of credit.
Myself I am no longer going to play the preorder game and will instead wait for diecast to actually become available and while that may lock me out of some companies who will do preorders and sell out months to over a year in advance of the product shipping I have found tying up a credit card is a bigger pain in the butt than it is worth. If the card is replaced with a new card and a new expiration date you have to start contacting these companies and updating your information or the charge will be declined when the product does finally ship. I had a card that was a Visa card but the company changed the account from a Visa to a Mastercard issuing new cards so I had to update the card information for the preorders I had.
What I would like to see is all these companies only do a preorder when the product has actually shipped and is en-route from the manufacture, that would bring down the current preorder wait time to approximately 4 months from the time the product leaves china until it is finally unloaded in California and making its way to dealers to be shipped to buyers.
What are your thoughts, do these companies need to reel this in to more realistic time periods or does no one care how long it takes to ship these products?
One other consideration I have on this topic is that, if you do such a long arrival deal on ebay, after a certain time period you lose your ability to get refunded by ebay if your item never arrives; regardless of the reason.
