Saw a possibility and inquired about photos of the actual vehicle. Seller stated he was not willing to open the box nor break the foam seal. Hey I respect that, just cant get behind buying a box photo.
Maybe folks here have gone out on faith and have. I just dont feel comfortable with that. My loss and I am ok with this. Just wondering how you gents do it please.

I am guessing that you are talking about a DM or FM box. One is that they are not sealed and should be able to remove it and at least take a picture of the item still cradles in the Styro. If they will not do that, then I would pass. If you are talking about a model like Crown Premiums, Johnny Lightning or others that you can see the model, then I would rather not have the seal broken. I will take them on their word as long as I can see various photos of the item.

It's NOT really an issue so long as the box is factory sealed (but you know what the model looks like ) and the model is advertised as new. Should there be any issues, eBay will correct them. Afterall, most other online purchases are for items "in a box." 🤨

@100ford2003 I am the same, I mean I get Ebay protection and all of that. Yes seeing photos isn't a guarantee what you see is what will arrive. But how do I know you just didn't pick that box out the trash and started snapping photos.
With my one forum if you selling, it had to have your username, the domain n as me, and today's date listed in the listing.

@modeldadeeee I'm going to weigh in here as the devil's advocate (just as @chris did a few hours earlier), for if I wanted the model that much and there were few/no other options, I'd take a shot at it. If it is advertised as New, and not just New Condition, it comes down to desire and willingness to take a gamble. eBay responds well when I have has issues during the past twelve months, and there have been several. If it is special to your heart, dive in. Just make sure you keep the paper trail.

Just me personally Ben, I have never bought a model without seeing it, and yes, have passed on same, always to find another, and usually at a better price. It takes quite a bit of patience sometime though, lol. Even knowing Ebay AND my PayPal account let's me know they'd make it right. Like I said, that's just my personal take.😁

I purchased a couple of Franklin Mint model that were new in box and never opened. One was a 1967 red Camaro RS/SS and the other was a 1971 plum crazy 'Cuda. Both cars had issues. The Camaro was literally crumbling apart, and the 'Cuda was covered in paint rash. I got my money back from both sellers, and I can't blame them, they were selling new in box, "be the first to open it". Anyway, I'm done with that. I want to see what I'm buying and make sure all of the parts are there.

...I was only burned once - when I purchased from a seller advertising a "factory sealed box" with no pics of the model. It was a nice price, so I pulled the trigger. The 1/18 car arrived in perfect condition except for ONE thing - the steering wheel was missing.
Interestingly, the model was an auction purchase from THIS SITE many years ago. The seller took care of me by promptly issuing a partial refund. 🙂
